HTHS Student Represents at DC Journalism Conference

(Secaucus, NJ––September 15, 2022) High Tech’s Jyanna Schillari, a junior in the Arts Academy, was selected to as a National Youth Correspondent to represent Secaucus, NJ, at the 2022 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University, announced Ms. Kathy Young, Principal of High Tech High School.

Schillari, who was chosen based on her academic prowess and excellence in journalism and media studies, joined students from throughout the US to study journalism and media in an intensive conference setting. Throughout the week-long conference, which took place from July 10–July 15 at George Mason University, participants in the National Youth Correspondents program moved through a series of decision-making simulations to challenge them creatively, practically, and ethically by examining tensions in journalism and media.

Of her time at the conference, Ms. Schillari said, “I enjoyed making friends from all over the country. It was an amazing experience [and] I was very proud to be a part of the Washington Journalism and Media Conference.”

The conference featured distinguished faculty and prominent journalists, as well as CEOs of major media outlets, researchers, and recent college graduates. Past speakers included Hoda Kotb from NBC, Brian Lamb from C-SPAN, and Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer Carol Guzy.
