(Secaucus, NJ--February 1, 2023) Jeremy Lewan (HTHS ‘18) made an impact on our 107 Environmental Science Academy students with his powerful career-related presentation as part of our district’s celebration of Career Technical Education Month®, announced Ms. Kathy Young, Principal of High Tech High School. Every February, the CTE community celebrates CTE Month® to raise awareness of the role that CTE has in readying learners for college and career success. CTE Month® is a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of our successful alumni.
Through the power of storytelling, Jeremy, a resident of Bayonne, shared how diverse life can be when you set goals, stay committed and take chances. From the time Jeremy was a little kid, he knew he wanted to be a meteorologist. After graduating from the Environmental Science Academy at High Tech High School, Jeremy majored in meteorology at Rutgers University. Because of his tenacity, Jeremy is currently pursuing his meteorological career as a Stormtracker 16 Broadcast Meteorologist for WNEP in Scranton, PA. In addition to his career in meteorology, he also pursues runway modeling; walking in the New Jersey Bridal Expo and Wedding Showcase as well as New York Fashion Week. Jeremy’s talk centered around his involvement as an outreach ambassador for and recent participant of the STEMSEAS Program, a 6-10 day exploratory experience onboard a NSF-funded research vessel, intended specifically for undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. Jeremy’s presentation highlighted the importance of following your dreams, trying new things, and how impactful a Career Technical Education can be.
One High Tech Senior said, "Jeremy inspired me to not be scared to try new things, and that I can balance the things I love currently and those that I will soon discover!" Another student confessed that they were inspired to go into the field of science after the presentation. Jeremy stuck around to answer questions and interact with the High Tech students. Ms. Doria, who taught Jeremy in his freshman and senior years, says, “I always knew Jeremy would be a meteorologist so I am so proud of his accomplishments but even more proud of him for being so genuine to himself and his willingness to jump into opportunities and give back to his community.” The High Tech students and staff thank Jeremy for taking the time to talk with us during our celebration of CTE Month® and look forward to having him back next year!
