Mrs. Shields is very honored to announce that our 2021 virtual musical Little Women, The Broadway Musical received a Rising Star nomination and an Honorable Mention on May 14th, during a special Facebook announcement.
Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards was created in 1996 to encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of New Jersey high school musicals. The Rising Star Awards is a statewide high school recognition program and has been replicated in several regions nationwide with Paper Mill Playhouse’s assistance.
Our production of Little Women, the Broadway Musical was nominated for the Rising Star Award for Outstanding Performance by a Small Ensemble for the musical number The Most Amazing Thing featuring Ivellisses Segovia, Mathew Segovia and Kayla Velazquez.
County Prep also received an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Performance by a Small Ensemble, for the performance of the musical number Some Things Are Meant to Be, featuring Tatyana Serrato and Kayla Velazquez.
The three Rising Stars nominees Ivellisses Segovia, Mathew Segovia and Kayla Velazquez also received a $1,300 scholarship to the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ.
Mrs. Barbara Mendolla, our principal is very proud of this incredibly talented cast, who can now add Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star nominee to their resume. Our production of Little Women, The Broadway Musical has also received 6 Foxy Award nominations from Montclair State University. The show was directed by Ms. Raluca Shields, under the musical direction of Mrs. Valerie Gonzalez, rehearsed, recorded virtually, and streamed through Broadway Media on January 28th and 29th, in accordance with the MTI requirements.
