(Secaucus, NJ––October 18, 2021) Vinnie Nardiello, writer and veteran High Tech High School English instructor, will have his most recent play, Diving Horses, performed at the Theater for the New City in NYC this November, announced Ms. Kathy Young, Principal of High Tech High School.
Nardiello, who also teaches Comedy and Journalism, wrote Diving Horses during the pandemic. The piece, which consists of four one-acts, examines in ways funny, tragic, and disturbing the experience of parenthood in a culture consumed by perfectionism. In the words of the author, “It’s now not just enough to present perfection to your own children, but also to an increasingly judgmental public that sees so much of our lives documented. There is also the pressure faced by children to be the flawless accessory to complete the package. The characters throughout Diving Horses must shoulder these pressures as the images they show the world clash with their own shortcomings.”
Diving Horses will be performed as a stage reading with the cast featuring two High Tech teachers––Kerri Murphy, Drama instructor; and Chelsea Walker, English instructor––as well as HTHS class of 2016 alumnus Christian Masinsin.
Diving Horses is the latest success for Nardiello. Over the last decade, his work has appeared on television and in theaters nationwide, in venues ranging from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Nardiello’s previous play, The Boom, had a successful run at the Theater for the New City in 2015.
