High Tech Musical Theatre Presents IN THE HEIGHTS

(North Bergen, NJ—May 8, 2017) In the Heights, High Tech Musical Theatre’s latest event, will be performed in the Jay Todd Black Box Theater this spring, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.

In The Heights, the first hit from Broadway phenomenon Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the sensation Hamilton!, tells the story of dreaming big, loving large, and also finding a place to call home.  The titular location, Manhattan’s Washington Heights, on a stifling Fourth of July finds its residents dreaming of getting out of the inner city.  Usnavi’s bodega, Daniela’s hair salon, and the Rosarios’ taxi service have served as the locus in bringing the neighborhood together, yet a harsh economic climate forces these establishments to face the possibility of being shuttered for good, thus changing the lives of many forever. An unexpected chain of events—a blackout, a winning lottery ticket, romantic tensions—leads residents to discoveries about each other and the community.  The original run of In the Heights earned a Tony Award for Best Score and Best Musical, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Cast Album.
Under the stage direction of John Zisa and veteran High Tech musical virtuoso Rod Shepard, In the Heights will feature over fifty High Tech Musical Theatre actors and live student musicians.

In the Heights is a celebration of culture and love and of what it means to live and survive together,” says Zisa.  “It’s an important piece, especially in our current political climate, and I feel that, besides the show having phenomenal music and impressive dancing, it’s a great show to highlight the various backgrounds and cultures that makes up our High Tech community, too.”

High Tech Musical Theatre’s performances of In the Heights will take place on the evenings of Thursday, May 18th, Friday, May 19th, and Saturday, May 20th, at 7pm, with matinees on that Saturday and on Sunday, May 21st, at 2pm. Tickets for all shows on sale at www.showtix4u.com.
