Abhisekh Roka, a junior at County Prep, earned a bronze medal at the New Jersey state SkillsUSA championships held in Somerset, NJ on April 1st. The annual SkillsUSA championships bring together the most skilled career technical students from across the state to compete in various technical programs.
In the SkillsUSA Computer Programming contest, students who participated in the Computer Programming contest were challenged to showcase their problem-solving capabilities and create sophisticated and efficient solutions to problems. The competition required participants to develop three different applications, including a Unit Conversion, EV Charging Cost Calculator and Amusement Park Ticket Sales applications.
Contestants had to ensure their code was efficient and handled all possible user input, and also handled edge cases correctly. The competitors also had to implement good coding practices, which are essential for developing high-quality software that is efficient, reliable, and easy to maintain.
SkillsUSA is a nonprofit national education association that partners with students, teachers, and industry to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It serves middle-school, high-school, and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.
