Last month HTHS D|Fab students took a field trip to Stevens Institute of Technology where they connected with corporate and college mentors. Students also had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities that prepared them for success after high school!

HTHS Environmental Science Major Myra Poddar visited our Board meeting yesterday. She gave a fascinating presentation about the work that she has been doing as an intern at High Tech's Hydroponic Lab! There, Myra has been growing, harvesting, and studying the history and properties of different plants used to make tea.
Congratulations to the High Tech Consumer Bowl team, led by Ms. Jamie Velazquez, who won the Hudson County Consumer Bowl competition last week! Captain Andrea Gonzalez, Amaan Ansari, Sofia Matos, and Elysa Santiago will advance to the Northern Regional competition in April. Thanks also to the High Tech cafeteria staff for the delicious breakfast and lunch that they prepared for all the participants!
County Prep Fashion students were inspired by the novel 101 Dalmatians (1956) by Dodie Smith and Disney’s 1961 animated film by the same name. The Sophomore Fashion Students used the fun loving Dalmatian puppies and the eccentric fashion-obsessed Cruella De Vil to create the collection which is on display in the mall area of County Prep High School. The collection is an example of how the elements and principal of design along with creative visual merchandising can create a well-balanced and pleasant display for all to enjoy.

HCST's Music and Audio Technology Department will be having its "March Madness" Concert on Wednesday, March 8th at the Frank J. Gargiulo Theater in the Secaucus Campus. Doors open at 6:30pm and the Concert will begin at 7pm. Come support our student musicians as they perform renditions as well as original songs and compositions.

Ryan Johnson graduated from County Prep in 2006 where he studied VPA and art. During his time at HCST Ryan started the academic teacher internship program where he got his first experience in a classroom. After going on to get his BA at Elmira College and MA at the University of Phoenix, he’s back teaching at County Prep! Both Ryan’s sister Sarah Casavecchia and her husband Nick Casavecchia also graduated from CPHS and now work as nurses. #HCSTcelebratesCTE

The Junior Broadcasting Majors at HTHS had the chance to visit CNBC! They were able to tour of the facility and see firsthand how the network runs from pre to post-production to distribution. It was a wonderful experience to see what a major network is like in action!
Thurman Carey is a 1999 graduate of County Prep High School’s Allied Health (Pre-Med Science) Program and currently works as an Education and Mental Health instructor at his alma mater. As a student, he discovered a number of different career paths that would allow him to help others.
He had teachers who cared more than he could have ever imagined and he strives to provide his students with the same learning experience. Chynna DeStefano is a 2008 graduate of County Prep High School who works as a cost accounting manager for Ralph Lauren and sole proprietor wedding photographer. During her senior year, HCST connected her with an internship at Hudson City Savings Bank where she became interested in finance, helping shape her career.
She encourages students to participate in CTE because it gives them the opportunity to experience the professional setting before even graduating high school. #HCSTcelebratesCTE
February is CTE Month! Jamie Roberson is a 2016 County Prep graduate working in the nursing field as a patient care technician. It was during her time at HCST that she found an interest in the medical field and knew it was the career path she wished to pursue.

Last Friday Mr. Jiovanny Aguiar brought the CPHS Key Club to volunteer with the non-profit Backpacks for Life. Students were able to learn about the incredible work they do to provide homeless and at-risk veterans with backpacks filled with essential goods, and connect them to mentorship and other supportive services.

HCST's Music and Audio Technology Department is thrilled to be hosting a production of Malik Work's award winning hip-hop theatre production "Verses at Work" for students in the County Prep Theater tomorrow at 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM! The one-man show connects the world of hip-hop and jazz, as well as the early millennium nightlife of the Lower East Side of Manhattan and intertwines verse, video, live music, musical theater, hip-hop, spoken word, dance, and theatrical monologue in a captivating, vibrant, and energetic show.
This year, the students in Generosity for Generations (G4G) continued their holiday traditions by hosting both the Angel Tree and the Homeroom Canned Food Drive Competition. In an effort to do even more to give back, on December 20th they teamed up with the Culinary staff to host a “Make Your Own Cupcake and Brownie Sale”! All proceeds will be donated to the local food bank.
