Seven freshmen Physical Education (PE) Judo students were awarded their judo yellow belts after being tested to demonstrate throwing and mat work techniques used in the sport of judo, in addition to Japanese terminology used in competition.

The yellow belt is the first of several belt color steps that lead to achieving the coveted Black Belt. PE Judo classes and afterschool Judo Club give High Tech students a unique opportunity to continually improve their skills, compete in different competition levels, and enjoy the comradery of the High Tech judo community.

Judo has been offered as a PE course since the inception of High Tech over 30 years ago, and the Judo Club was one of the school’s first clubs. Many High Tech students who began their judo careers just like these new yellow belts have continued to go on to achieve their Black Belts, and compete and earn medal finishes, both nationally and internationally. It will be exciting to watch our new yellow belts progress. Congratulations!
