On a crisp and beautiful November day, Ms. Batista’s Architecture, Mrs. Simon’s Industrial Design, and Mr. Bolich’s Wood Technology Junior students traveled to Governors Island in New York City to visit The Adaptations 2.0 Exhibition at Pratt Institute's Center for Climate Adaptation. Co-hosted with the Trust for Governors Island and the NY Climate Exchange, the exhibition ran from September 12 to November 1, 2024, showcasing innovative solutions to address climate challenges through material design, architecture, and technology. The day began with a scenic ferry ride, setting the tone for an immersive experience that highlighted the intersections of sustainability and creativity.
At the exhibition, students explored cutting-edge projects designed to create resilient urban environments in the face of climate change. The exhibits featured architectural models, interactive installations, and forward-thinking concepts that inspired students to consider how their respective disciplines—architecture, industrial design, and wood technology—can contribute to sustainable solutions. Engaging in discussions and reflecting on the exhibits, students left with a greater understanding of the role design plays in tackling global challenges. The trip was both educational and inspiring, offering students the chance to connect their studies to real-world applications in a truly unforgettable setting.
