Among them, were our seniors, Kristina Torres, Alaa Sakr, and Tomas Romano. The title of Kristina’s project,Combined Effects of Antibiotics and Natural Remedies. Alaa Sakr conducted her research on Effects of Caffeine Exposure and Cell Cycle. Tomas Romano presented Antibacterial Activity of Stypholonobium japonicum (Pagoda tree) Extracts. All three students performed their experiments in our High Tech High School Lab as a part of the AP Biology course. They worked on it not only during assigned Lab time and in their free time.
Most of students saw three judges, but Kristina Torres answered questions of five judges. She was recognized with Honorable Mention. Students’ posters were in categories for Biological studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Environmental Studies.
Freshmen Anna Matos and Giuliana Perez, as well as Juniors Nicole Sanchez and Ivan Viccaro attended this event as observers, along with Dr. Dmitri Lavlinski and Dr. Nina Lavlinskaia. While judges were deciding on the scores, everyone attended a lecture on How Molecules Come Together to Form Bioinspired Materials by Dr. Subhasish Chatterjee form St.Joseph’s University. Scientist explained various strategies utilized to compose new materials. All students concluded that participation in this event inspired them to do their own research or improved their presentation skills.
Congratulations to all participants, and especially to Kristina Torres representing High Tech High School so well at the Research Poster Session of American Chemical Society in New York.
