In an impressive display of skill, strategy, and teamwork, the High Tech Marvel Rivals eSports team captured the Garden State eSports state title this past weekend, marking a historic win for the program.
Competing in Marvel Rivals, the team advanced through a competitive playoff bracket before facing Garfield High School in a high-stakes final match. After a tense back-and-forth series, High Tech secured the victory with a 2-0 victory, earning cheers from fans both in person and online.
Coach Jared Krinsky praised the players for their dedication throughout the season. “This group worked incredibly hard, balancing schoolwork, practice, and competition,” they said. “Their teamwork, skill, and commitment really showed today.”
Team captain William David credited the win to preparation and trust. “I’m grateful for my team, my family, and my coach, it wouldn’t have been possible. I promised Krinsky we wouldn’t lose and I’m happy to have made good on that promise.” A big congrats to William David, Peyton Rogers, Alexander Heyman, Anthony Xicotencatl, Alec Dickson, and Blake Lee.
The championship marks the Rivals team’s first state title and highlights the rapid growth of scholastic eSports in the region.
Along with that the Smash and Valkyrie Smash team both took 3rd in their respective state finals as well. The Smash team, consisting of Matteo Amy, Mashary Ahmed, and Samuel Zea-Kislinger and the Valkyrie Smash team with Brielle Garcia, Alicia Rodriguez, and Angela DiNardo, strive to continue practicing and take home the championship in the next season they compete in.
Matteo Amy of the Smash team and Brielle Garcia of the Valkyrie Smash team both received All-Star Awards for their immense skill and dedication over the season.
All in all this is another victory for the High Tech eSports team, continuing to make it one of, if not the best high school eSports teams in NJ with countless county, state, and national trophies under our belt.
