Code, Create, Compete: D|Fab’s 2026 CTE Month Programming Showcase

On February 26, 2026, in Celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, D|Fab’s Computer Programming major hosted a dynamic event featuring a Morning Hackathon, a Tech Expo, and a Final Presentation. The event was led by Computer Programming Instructors Lisandra Docampo, Bushra Javed, Gustavo Bordenabe allow with members of the CP Team: Nick P., Saori P., Ritvik K., Mathew P., Yousef M., and Jenihita V.

Students from all grade levels showcased their programming skills through hands-on activities, competitions, and interactive demonstrations. The Morning Hackathon challenged six teams to develop a class scheduling program within 30 minutes, promoting problem-solving, logical thinking, and coding proficiency.

The Tech Expo, held during the lunch periods in the Resource Room, included VEX robotics; Chromebook and Computer Tower assembly; explorations of generative AI tools; and a Portfolio Showcase with guidance on building students' portfolios in Google Sites. There were also four competitions: Battle of the Program, where two teams showcased their Lab Inventory Apps for managing computer details; Battle of the Typing, a one-on-one timed typing challenge; Battle of the Code, testing speed and accuracy; and “Buy an App,” where students showcased their AP Computer Science Principles projects at vendor tables, interacting with visitors who “bought” their favorite program with tokens. Many projects developed by students were displayed as printed materials for attendees to view while gaining inspiration from a wide range of creative and technical ideas.

The day concluded with a presentation that included the program overview, contest winners, project demonstrations, and a guest speaker. Contest winners included Vendor Winner Jayce Wong, Battle of the Code winner Siddarth S., and Battle of the Typing winner Selma Y. Meanwhile, the team formed by Max, Aidan, and Mashary in the Morning Hackathon was also selected by attendees as the favorite Lab Inventory App. During the presentation, students from the CP team showcased programs including Ritvik’s Driver’s License Decode (Python), Kush’s Organize It (Android), Noah’s College Application Tracker (Android), and Matthew’s Home Loan Approval Checker (Java). At the end, Taiki, a former High Tech student now studying Computer Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, shared his college experiences, advice for aspiring CS students, and his use of JavaScript with React. Attendees were encouraged to explore additional student work on the program’s website.  Comp Programming Website, and follow updates on Instagram @hths_computer_programming.
