Building Character and Unity: Explore Middle School's Week of Respect
Explore Middle School kicked off the Week of Respect with activities promoting unity against bullying. Students were encouraged to wear themed outfits, like pajamas to "put bullying to bed." In orientation, they learned about bullying, conflict, and the roles of bystanders versus upstanders, culminating in skits based on real scenarios.
They also engaged in team-building, with 6th and 7th graders paired with 8th-grade leaders, who guided icebreakers and discussed the six pillars of character. The day ended with a pep-rally-style assembly by the ICON Dance Team.
As part of the "Character Counts" unit, students volunteered for activities like park clean-ups and working with the Hoboken Homeless Shelter. A new initiative, "Character Coins," rewarded acts of kindness with prizes, promoting a caring school environment throughout the year.
