High Tech’s Sophia Baldassari Wins a Scholastic Arts Gold Key Award for Dramatic Writing

(Montclair, NJ--January 18, 2019) High Tech junior Sophia Baldassari, a resident of Hoboken, won a Gold Key award for Dramatic Writing for her short play, Jenna Meets Death, courtesy of the North New Jersey affiliate of the Scholastic Art Awards, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech.
Baldassari also earned First Place in the Teen Author Category of the Hoboken Public Library’s One Act Play Writing Competition last November.

A drama major at High Tech, Baldassari has performed at Manhattan repertory theatre and Upright Citizens Brigade. She developed her award-winning original play, Jenna Meets Death (Who Looks like Elton John), from one of the scenes that she composed for the High Tech drama Waiting Room last year. Her scene didn’t make it into the final cut of the show, but Baldassari reworked it into her play.
In addition to writing plays at High Tech, she performs with the school’s Stand-Up Comedy ensemble.
